Berlin Airlift -June 27, 1948 to May 12, 1949
The United States, France, Great Britain, and The Soviet Union all divided Berlin up into 4 sections for each to have. Germany was also divided into four sections. Berlin was inside of the section that the Soviets had control of. The Soviets then decided that they wanted control of all Berlin. So the Soviets set up a blockade around Berlin so nobody could get in or out of Berlin.
As a result of this France, Great Britain, and the United States joined together and sent planes over west Berlin that dropped supplies for the people. The Soviets weren't doing anything to keep these people alive so we took actions.
The united states dropped supplies into Berlin for about 11 month. This ended up to be about 5,000 tons of supplies. This was very embarrassing for the Soviets and they lifted the blockade. The United States looked like heros and resulted in a victory for us. This then created West and East Germany. This was known of as the Berlin Airlift.
